My mind has been relatively politically inactive lately. That's about to change.

Some early season thoughts.

If another Democrat comes along to challenge President Obama in the primaries, I'd most likely vote for the challenger, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. I'd love for someone to say he or she is going to do all the things Obama said he was going to do, then get elected and actually do them. Unfortunately not only is that not going to happen in 2012, by the way things look it's not going to happen, ever.

The field of Republican candidates is extremely unsettling to me, thinking it's possible that one of them could actually become President in the not-too-distant future. I try to take comfort in the thought that the only one who has a chance to win the general election is Mitt Romney, and he keeps screwing up in the debates and elsewhere, and he's trailing in most polls at the moment. As scary as Newt Gingrich would be as a nominee, I kind of hope that's how it goes because I don't think he has the slightest chance of winning in November. But, if he does...

Better not think about that right now.

Even though the Republican debates have been going on for some time, the closeness of the looming election year hadn't hit me until I just recently realized the Iowa Caucus is just over three weeks away, and the New Hampshire Primary is only a week after that.

So what is 2012 going to be? Interesting? or Frightening?

Watching the GOP debates makes me think that it is the most bizarre game show ever thought up for prime time.

If I had to choose a GOP candidate I would begrudging choose Huntsman (who stands no chance of winning the nomination at this rate) because at least he believes in science. It is sad when my bar is set that low.

Both. Hang on. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

For me, it's going to be frightening. Neither party suits me imo and I'm done with voting for "vote with the lesser of two evils". Therefore, I vote third party and will until my voice is heard. Besides, it's not a completely wasted vote since there is other stuff to vote for (i.e senators, amendments to bills)

However, as I learned back in 2010, things can be frightening even if you vote in a system with more than two parties. I was flabbergasted when the Swedish Democrats (that would be the Swedish version of the BNP) got voted into power (you need 4% and they got in with a 5.4% if I recall correctly). More people voted for them than they did with my SO's party (the Left Party, or the Socialists). While i know Sweden is not a socialist country as people lead Americans to believe (it does have programs brought to the people by the Social Democrats, the other socialist party), I was still shocked how you got shit in Sweden like you do in America. It comes to show that we still have a long way to go with bigotry if countries like Sweden still have shit like this.
