My mind has been relatively politically inactive lately. That's about to change.

Some early season thoughts.

If another Democrat comes along to challenge President Obama in the primaries, I'd most likely vote for the challenger, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. I'd love for someone to say he or she is going to do all the things Obama said he was going to do, then get elected and actually do them. Unfortunately not only is that not going to happen in 2012, by the way things look it's not going to happen, ever.

The field of Republican candidates is extremely unsettling to me, thinking it's possible that one of them could actually become President in the not-too-distant future. I try to take comfort in the thought that the only one who has a chance to win the general election is Mitt Romney, and he keeps screwing up in the debates and elsewhere, and he's trailing in most polls at the moment. As scary as Newt Gingrich would be as a nominee, I kind of hope that's how it goes because I don't think he has the slightest chance of winning in November. But, if he does...

Better not think about that right now.

Even though the Republican debates have been going on for some time, the closeness of the looming election year hadn't hit me until I just recently realized the Iowa Caucus is just over three weeks away, and the New Hampshire Primary is only a week after that.

So what is 2012 going to be? Interesting? or Frightening?
