On the way home from going out to eat in Linwood, we were at the end of a street in Mendon waiting to make a left turn onto Route 16, when a FedEx truck pulled up next to us, in the left lane, to also make a left turn. Jackie wondered out loud, "What's this about?"
The right side door of the truck was open so I could see the driver, and I know you can't tell where somebody is from just by looking at him, but in this guy's case my guess would have been Jamaica. Of course I could be totally wrong. For all I know it could have been Jamaica Plain.
My first thought was to tell him this isn't a one-way street.
Anyway, the street we were turning onto is a busy one, so it was only a matter of seconds before traffic was there to make a right turn onto the street we were on, and he was right in their way. Suddenly he was all, "Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!" and my thought of what to say changed to, "Do you remember what country you're in?" By now I think he did.
He had to wait for traffic from the right to pass before he could pull out, and it did. And he did. And then I did. I said I think he's from another country where they drive on the left and he just forgot! To which Jackie and Jean both said, "He'd have to have a driver's license from here, and have gotten some training before driving for FedEx, wouldn't he?"
Uh, yeah. Theoretically.
