That's all.

I just found out it's been gone since April. Just another example of me not paying attention to stuff, I guess.

I just realized that two days ago was the tenth anniversary of the start of this journal. Ten whole years. Holy shit!

Turkey Day

Aug. 10th, 2013 10:25 pm

Today is the first day I ever saw a family of wild turkeys in my own yard. There were seven or eight of them. I had just gotten home when they came around from the back yard, walked by me next to the driveway, and crossed the street. Only one car had to stop for them, and fortunately it did. They stayed in my neighbor's yard for a while, then they moved on.

In all actuality, the real subject of this entry is "Catching Up On Shit I Said I'd Do" and there are more memes from [livejournal.com profile] finstergrrrl to follow.

Comment on this post, saying that you want to play and I will choose five interests from your profile. You will then explain what they mean/why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

From [livejournal.com profile] goodnesglaciers:

tanita tikaram: I was completely (and inexplicably?) unaware of her existence until a couple of years ago, when I heard Twist In My Sobriety on the radio. I like her music, is all it is, and there was room on my list of interests, so I added her to it.

piper cubs: Of the different kinds of airplanes I've ever piloted, Piper Cubs are by far the most fun to fly. By far.

aopa: Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. A pilot's best resource. Been a member since 1995. An extremely valuable source of information and services, and they fight hard in Washington on behalf of general aviation. A matter of mixed feelings: One of our strongest allies in DC is none other than Senator James Inhofe. Why can't it be anybody else?

mother jones: Always an interesting read, in my opinion. I wish like hell it had a much wider circulation.

string theory: A theory that I find both fascinating and difficult to wrap my head around, at the same time. Don't ask me to try to explain it! :)

I was passed on the interstate highway by an apparently insane driver in an SUV. The registration non-number was OMGTMI.

Speaking of which, I'm really getting tired of hearing Joe Theismann and these other guys talk about their prostates and urine flow. Don't know if those commercials are shown everywhere or not.

Another non-improvement.

Now I find the My LJ page much more useful.

leftbase: (Voted)
I think today is the first day I ever voted and didn't see one person with a sign for one candidate or another, and the polling place was the least busy of all the times, by far. Thankful that the early results showing Gomez with a lead didn't hold.

Anybody who complains to me about the result will first have to answer the question, "Did you vote?" And the answer had better be yes.

Hope the weather stays nice for a while.

The special election is almost upon us, thank goodness. The more ads I see for Gabriel Gomez, the more I want to vote for Ed Markey.

The Scouts

Allowing openly gay members is a step in the right direction, I guess, but homophobia is alive and well in the Boy Scouts of America.

I know a former Scout who was molested by a Scout Leader. A heterosexual Scout Leader. So isn't it obvious that straight men should be banned from serving in that capacity?

This morning, as I was getting into my car to go to work, a woman was walking her dog (a Silky) on the sidewalk across the street. She was a total stranger, yet as she walked by, she turned and waved and had the most beautiful smile.

Of course I smiled and waved back and said, "Good morning."

I think it was the nicest possible start a day could have.

I still miss [livejournal.com profile] zortrana. It's her birthday, too. Her sister hasn't updated in over three years, so I think it's time to give her a shout.

All I have to say tonight is, I hope my livejournal friends who live in the areas of extreme weather are all okay.

Did I hear that there was a mile-wide tornado on the ground for an hour in Oklahoma?

Off Friday

Nothing really to write about today, except that I think it's time to do another backup of my journal. Been a while.

I don't even remember what year I bought this computer, but it was several years ago now. All I remember is I bought it on a Friday, the day before the Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday weekend, because it was worth the extra $30 not to have to deal with the crowds.

It still works pretty well, but it locks up completely for one to two minutes, only one time per session, and only when I go to either Facebook or Linkedin. The mouse cursor doesn't move, and I can't type anything, and if music is playing it plays a segment over and over again like a broken record. Then after the minute or so is over, it starts working again as if there's nothing wrong.

It's annoying, but I haven't decided if it's annoying enough to do something about it. :)

A little late maybe, but Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms, the new Moms, and the soon-to-be Moms on my friends list and everywhere.
