Even though there were times I felt I couldn't get away from it no matter how hard I tried, I didn't follow the trial too closely. Therefore, I'm about to express a rather uninformed opinion about the verdict.

I don't think Casey Anthony is guilty of first degree murder, but I do think she's guilty of way more than what she was ultimately convicted of. I don't know about Florida laws, but in Massachusetts if someone is tried for first degree murder, the jury has the option to convict of lesser offenses, such as second degree murder or manslaughter. First degree murder in this case seems like an overcharge to me, and I guess it's possible that Florida juries don't have the choices Massachusetts juries have, but I'd bet the prosecutor had choices other than the one he went with. If she had been charged with something like manslaughter or negligent homicide, I think the outcome would likely be very different.

The worst thing about this is that a 2-year old girl is dead and no one will ever be held accountable for it. Ever. Justice wasn't done.
