A point was made in the comments about the lack of attention given to the many deaths, over many years, of transgendered individuals, not just by the founders of Spirit Day, whoever they are, but by pretty much all members of society who are not a part of the trans community, hetero and homosexual alike.

As valid as the point is, which is very, I don't see it as a reason not to post the entry about Spirit Day. I don't have a lot of readers here, so it's rather doubtful that my having it in this journal will have much of an impact, but if enough people post it and enough people wear purple on the 20th and some people ask why, there is the possibility, however slight, that awareness of an intolerable situation may be raised ever so slightly, and maybe, just maybe, somewhere, some day, someone might be helped by it. For that reason alone, I think it's worth the two mouse clicks it takes to post it. And that's why I did it.

I didn't do it to be all activisty and stuff, as a friend of a friend of a friend apparently did somewhere, only to almost be told off for it, for the reason mentioned in the first paragraph. I would feel a very high degree of resentment if someone told me off for only trying to help.

For the record, if someone asks me why I'm wearing purple (which I never do) that day, they're going to hear about a lot more than the six teenagers mentioned in the post.

That is all! Regular posts will resume shortly. :)
