Aviation commentary
Sep. 1st, 2009 11:59 pmI suppose I shouldn't get annoyed by news reporters who don't know what they're talking about, but sometimes I just do. If a car stalls, it means the engine stops running. If an airplane stalls, it doesn't mean the engine stops running. It means air isn't flowing across the wings fast enough to produce lift.
It's what the FAA spokesperson said in this article, but it's not what I heard anybody say on the television news.
Pilots stall airplanes on purpose for practice. We don't shut the engine off while in the air. Ever.
That's all!
