revisiting the issue
Oct. 3rd, 2005 11:59 pmI haven't written anything about the same-sex marriage issue since June, but today I saw in the paper that the second push for a constitutional amendment to ban it is well underway. Organizers claim to have over 25,000 of the 65,825 signatures needed to get it on the ballot, and they've only canvassed one-third of the catholic churches in the state so far. Not enough members of the church were driven away by the child sex abuse scandal, apparently. I'm not the confrontational type, but I really hope somebody asks me for my signature. Not likely to happen, though. Especially if they're only going to churches. Mainly I'd press for an explanation of why it's so important to people who are in no way affected by it.
If this actually makes it to the ballot, it will be in 2008, and it will have no effect on the marriages that have already taken place. I think the voters will reject it, but you never know.
The only other important thing I have to say tonight is that I think Skye Edwards has a really awesome voice. Oh yes, she does!
