Sep. 7th, 2004 11:59 pmFour years ago, the husband of a friend at work was diagnosed with cancer and told he has approximately six months to live. Four years. Just last week, another friend who lives near them told me that they're thinking he could go any time now.
Also just last week, another friend at work, who has endured a lot of crap both on and off the job lately, told me her father is in the hospital with kidney failure. He'd had bladder cancer and at age 86 had been living in a nursing home. They put some kind of tube in and got one kidney working again, but she said she knows it's "just a matter of time."
I was hoping to come back to work after a nice long weekend and not find out that one of them had died. Instead, I came back from a nice long weekend and found out that both of them have died. Sad, but I'm thinking it's also a relief in both cases.
