Things I read today...
Feb. 10th, 2004 01:01 pmMassachusetts House Speaker Tom Finneran is considering a bill that would block the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples when the SJC ruling takes effect in May. Last week he said he fears 'legal chaos' if same-sex marriages are allowed this year and the constitutional amendment he's pushing, which defines marriage as a union solely between a man and a woman, is approved by voters in 2006.
I think what he really fears is that after more than two years, the citizens will have had plenty of time to realize that the legalization of same-sex marriage isn't the cataclysmic event that opponents are making it out to be, and they'll reject the amendment. That's what I think.
In other news, the woman who filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit for injuries sustained by watching the superbowl half time show dropped the suit after less than a week. Such a speedy recovery from an injury of that severity can only be described as miraculous!
