Weighing In

The American Academy of Pediatrics says the benefits of infant male circumcision outweigh the risks. While I'm of course no medical professional, it still seems to me that the reasons they give can be offset in a major way by teaching about personal hygiene and safe sex.

They even say the benefits are not great enough to recommend it be done routinely. See?

As one who was thankfully spared the knife, my recommendation to parents of newborns is Don't Do It. Let the person whose penis it is decide. It's always an option if it ever becomes medically necessary.

That's my thought for the day!

I hate this bullshit. The so-called "benefits" of male circumcision are a cheap way of dealing with the problem of sexually transmitted diseases. Oh, men who are circumcised are less likely to get diseases? Guess what, SO ARE MEN WHO WEAR CONDOMS AND GET TESTED. omfg WHAT A CONCEPT.

I see no reason to justify cutting off a part of ANYONE'S genitalia for a few nebulous "heath benefits" that can be just as easily achieved through education, good hygiene and safe sexual practices.

tl;dr I agree 100%, I hate circumcision.
